The week that was: Exhaustion, the Beach and a Dolphin Show

Wishing you all a very happy Monday from a drizzly, cool Mooi River.  I don’t know about you but I had such a fun filled week after starting off pretty slow.  Here goes:

Exhaustion – on Tuesday I was sent home early from work, no I was not sick, nor did I turn up to work drunk, nothing like that.  Truth is I was utterly exhausted.  I don’t know why – maybe this last month before the wedding is taking a toll on my energy levels.  Whatever the reason I could not stop yawning at work and struggled to keep my eyes open.  So after being sent home before lunch I promptly slept for nearly 3 hours.  I could have carried on but Dev interrupted me by coming home for lunch – which was pretty insensitive of him.  On top of my mid-day snooze I had no problems getting to sleep that night either.  Clearly I needed that.

The Beach – Dev and I were lucky enough to be given a free two-night stay at a hotel looking onto the Durban beachfront.  It was so fantastic to get away and, as luck would have it, it coincided with our two year anniversary.  We went running along the beach together (in the rain – such is our dedication), treated ourselves to some dinner out, had a mini golf competition (winner) and relaxed.  It was just so nice to get away, take a break from wedding prep & wedding talk and just spend time together.  The weather was far from perfect but we couldn’t have cared less.  Honestly we were only gone for two nights but it felt like a lot longer.  Bliss!

A Dolphin Show – Yesterday we went to UShaka Marine World for the day and had an absolute ball behaving like big kids.  There was the aquarium, the water slides and then the most incredible Dolphin Show.  I have said it before but I will say it again, Dream Job Alert – I want to be a Dolphin Trainer.  There is something about a dolphin that just tugs at my heart strings.  I remember watching a show years ago at UShaka and telling my family that was it, I had decided, I wanted to be a marine biologist – just without the sea part…figure that one out!

Making time to take time

Is there anything more relaxing than a weekend at the beach?  For those times when your body is tired exhausted and you just need to get away from day to day stresses, wedding decisions, and just chill.  I was lucky enough to take time this (long) weekend to ponder that exact question, and where better to make up my mind than at the beach.  Our rented house was exactly 25 steps from house to sand – yes I counted – and having the chance to wake up each morning to the sounds of the waves crashing onto the beach left me feeling very blessed.

We all need to take time out in life, time to just relax, to get away from it all.  Time to spend with those closest to you.  Time to unwind and reload both your emotional and your physical energy banks.  To sleep when you want to sleep, eat when you want to eat, drink whatever you want, whenever you want – goodness I think there may even have been a day when I ‘forgot’ to brush my hair – such was my level of chill.  Absolute bliss.  I have come back home feeling like a new person, completely relaxed with my energy tanks at full again.

It is so easy to forget to step back, let your body recover from the stresses you put it through daily and take time out.  We keep waiting for the right time, never realising that in our busy lives there may never be the right time – we need to make time.

Make time people, make time!
